What's new

For almost 50 years the Imperial Male Voice Choir (IMVC) has entertained audiences and been successful in competitions at home and on tours to France, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, Slovenia and Russia. Their eclectic repertoire spans almost 1000 years from plainchant and sacred through folk-song, classical, opera, musical theatre and popular genres. Musical director, Deborah Miles- Johnson, and accompanist, Brian Parsons, are alumni of the Royal College of Music and both have many years of professional experience in performing, directing and teaching music. Our concerts usually raise money for charity.

The IMVC takes its name from Imperial College, University of London, where the founder members met in the 1970s. Although Imperial is renowned world-wide for its tuition and research in the fields of Science, Technology and Medicine, its students and alumni also have a notable enthusiasm and reputation for music-making.

The IMVC’s four planned concerts will focus particularly, but not exclusively, on sacred music and arrangements of traditional/ folk song harmonised for male voices.

  • Tuesday 15 October at 7pm: Sir Temi Zammit Hall, University of Malta, Msida. Secular music, especially male voice arrangements of English folk songs arranged by composers such as Vaughan Williams, Holst and Elgar. A mix of American traditional songs and Broadway musicals or popular hits. In aid of RIDT – University of Malta Research Trust https://researchtrustmalta.eu/
  • Wednesday 16 October 6:45pm: Basilica, Triq il Victoria, Senglea. An evening of sacred music covering more than 500 years from plainchant and Tallis through Schubert, Fauré and African-American spirituals to the 21st century within the glorious inspiring setting of the Basilica of Senglea. In aid of Foodbank, Senglea.
  • Friday 18 October 7.30pm: Parish Church, Għasri, Gozo. Hosted by the renowned Gozitan choir Schola Cantorum Jubilate and directed by Marouska Attard, each choir will sing some of its favourites and will join forces in some powerful, uplifting choral pieces by composers such as Bruckner and Vaughan Williams. In aid of Arka Foundation https://www.crpd.org.mt/directory/fondazzjoni-arka/
  • Saturday 19 October 11:30am: Seminary of the Sacred Heart, Triq Enrico Mizzi, Victoria, Gozo. The final concert, in Victoria, will feature predominantly secular music. Marouska Attard (soprano) will join Deborah Miles-Johnson (mezzo-soprano) in duets by Dvorak and Rossini and combine with the choir in the finale. Citadel Insurance donates books

For the second year running, on 14 February 2024, Citadel Insurance celebrated International Book Giving Day by inviting its employees to donate used books for a noble cause.

This initiative which was launched by the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy in 2023 is aimed at sustaining a continued support to local voluntary and philanthropic organisations, our environment, individuals in need, and other members of the community, whilst also instilling a love for art, culture and history in our society.

It’s not a coincidence that International Book Giving Day falls on the same day as Valentine’s Day. It is a day to share our love of books with someone — especially children — who might not have access to as many books as we do. International Book Giving Day is about two things — a love of books and a love for fellow human beings.

We are proud to be able to help The Children in Need Foundation in its efforts to nurture an environment for growth, recovery and fulfilment to ensure the dignity and value of each child, for a more inclusive society. This donation will give these children some interesting and fun times to immerse themselves into different worlds of fantasy and adventures that will fuel their imagination.

We also went one step further and a generous amount of books for ‘older’ readers was also donated to the Gozo SPCA, whose efforts to protect and care for animals in Gozo are to be commended. The books will be used by the SPCA to raise funds for their Society.

Thanks to the personal involvement of Citadel employees and their volunteering efforts, we remain committed to support CSR events and activities.

Citadel employees donate beach towels in aid of Turtle Rehab Unit

By featured news, news

What's new

Citadel employees recently organised a beach towel donation drive in support of the Turtle Rehab Unit being set up by Nature Trust Malta.

beachtowels

Why beach towels?

“These towels will play a crucial role in supporting the rehabilitation efforts for injured or sick sea turtles at the Turtle Rehab Unit. By providing them with comfortable and hygienic environments during their recovery process, we can significantly contribute to the trutles’ well-being and increase their chances of returning to their natural habitats”

Mr Vincent Attard, Executive President and CEO of Nature Trust – FEE Malta

Essentially these beach towels will serve a multitude of purposes:
  • Warmth and Comfort: When turtles are rescued and brought to the center, they might be in a weakened or injured state. Beach towels provide a soft and warm surface for them to rest on, emulating the feeling of a sandy beach.
  • Non-Abrasive Surface: The fabric of beach towels is gentle on the turtles’ sensitive skin, especially if they have wounds or shell injuries. They prevent tank sores and any further harm or irritation while they recover.
  • Hygiene and Cleanliness: Maintaining a clean environment is crucial in the rehabilitation process. Beach towels are easy to wash and replace, ensuring the turtles are not exposed to harmful bacteria.
  • Absorbent Properties: Turtles may be wet or have fluids on their bodies when they arrive at the center. Beach towels absorb moisture effectively, keeping the turtles dry and preventing any potential infections.
  • Stress Reduction: The bright colours and patterns on beach towels can have a calming effect on the turtles, reducing stress levels as they recover.

Mr Vincent Attard, Executive President and CEO of Nature Trust – FEE Malta was presented with a donation following a highly informative presentation which he kindly delivered to all employees, highlighting the work of the foundation.
So, if you have any unused beach towels, remember that these towels serve more than just sunbathing purposes – they play a vital role in the rehabilitation and conservation of these magnificent creatures!
Donate your used beach towels to support and appreciate the amazing work done by Nature Trust – FEE Malta.

Celebrating 10 years of Eco friendly World Environment Day initiatives

Eco Week 2023

For the tenth consecutive year, Citadel Insurance is continuing its annual tradition of celebrating World Environment Day, which this year is taking place on 5 June.  Throughout this week, the company will be carrying out various environmentally-friendly activities. Among these, customers who are being serviced at any one of Citadel’s branches in Malta and Gozo will be entitled to one free take-home plant (limited offer until stocks last). Additionally, Citadel Insurance will cover the cost of a return ferry ticket for the first 100 commuters travelling between the three Cities and Valletta.

To support customers in transitioning to eco-friendly practices, Citadel Insurance is also offering special incentives on home and motor insurance for those using renewable-energy solutions such as solar water heaters, PV systems, and electric or hybrid cars (terms and conditions apply).

“World Environment Day serves as an important reminder to all of us about the importance of taking care of our environment. Climate change also has a direct impact on the insurance business with the enhanced risks of extreme weather which it generates so it is also important from us from a commercial perspective to do all we can to encourage the use of eco-friendly technologies, and make changes in our daily lives to help restore the ecosystem,” said Angela Tabone, Managing Director of Citadel Insurance. “In line with this initiative, our customers also have access to our bespoke PV panels policy along with our exclusive eco incentives on the Eco Home and Eco Motor policies.”

The theme for World Environment Day 2023 is #BeatPlasticPollution, with a focus on solutions to the global plastic crisis. Every year, over 400 million tonnes of plastic are produced, with less than 10 per cent of it being recycled, and an estimated 19 to 23 million tonnes ending up in waterways.

“This year’s #BeatPlasticPollution theme highlights the impact of our actions on the environment, particularly the physical impact on marine life and all the consequences derived from it. Governments and businesses need to take more action together to address the issue of plastics and accelerate the shift to a circular economy,” Angela Tabone added.

Earth Day 2023

World Earth Day 2023

Held each year on 22nd April Earth Day aims to mobilise individuals, businesses and countries to change human behavior and create global, national and local policies that limit the negative impact of climate change across the globe.

It’s been 23 years since the first Earth Day was held in the United States, and the need for bold, creative and innovative solutions at all levels to tackle the environmental crisis, is stronger than ever.

Citadel Insurance p.l.c. has always been at the forefront of driving green initiatives and eco related insurance products which incentivise insurance customers to shift to cleaner and greener energy solutions.  Having been first in introducing Eco-car and Eco-Home discounted policies in recognition of both the need to support the environment and the growing awareness of the need to change, Citadel’s reputation as a market leading, environmentally-friendly organisation is second to none. The suite of green insurance products also includes policies covering Photovoltaic Panels, which save on energy bills while harnessing the year-round long hours of sunshine Malta and Gozo are blessed with.

Angela Tabone, Managing Director of Citadel Insurance, said “When in 2008, we first introduced insurance products specifically rewarding customers who supported the green agenda, we knew that this was not just a short-term marketing tactic. We were then, and clearly still are today, totally committed to sustainable growth and building a healthier economy.”

In recognition of one of the 6 pillars of Earth Day 2023, “The Canopy Project”, as well as to support the local Tree 4 U campaign, Citadel Insurance plc will be planting a number of trees during the next round of tree planting later on this year. The company is also in the final stages of ordering a new set of employee uniforms which, apart from being fashionably corporate and in line with today’s demanding workplace, have also been selected due to their environmentally sustainable design and longevity.

“With the Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions and difficulties brought with it, now almost a thing of the past, our own internal Corporate Social Responsibility activity is gathering momentum. With activities themed around healthy living, cultural awareness, and assistance to those in need already organised, the focus of our enthusiastic CSR team will turn to the environmental aspect of our programme where we should see children, climate literacy and cleanup activities being organised” concluded Ms Tabone.

Citadel Insurance offers a full range of quality insurance solutions for life, health, commercial and other individual solutions. For further information, one can visit any one of Citadel’s branches across Malta and Gozo, Citadel’s Head Office in Floriana, by calling Freephone 8007 2322 or by visiting www.citadelplc.com.

“There is truly no better way to honour World Environment Day than to facilitate actions that will help our planet,” said Angela Tabone, Managing Director of Citadel Insurance. “We wish to create more public awareness about initiatives which support cleaner energy solutions.  At Citadel you will be able to benefit from competitive eco-friendly insurance solutions for your home and car which reward customers who choose alternative technologies for their efforts to contribute towards reducing the strain on the environment.”

The theme for World Environment Day 2021 is “Ecosystem Restoration” and will see the launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Ecosystem restoration can take many forms including growing trees, greening cities, rewilding gardens, changing diets or cleaning up rivers and coasts.

“Ecosystems exist not only at a global scale, but also at a local level.
