Why do I need home insurance?

There are many reasons why you should insure your home. If you are buying a property and require a loan, then your bank will probably ask for an insurance policy to cover your property. Read more about the Home4Loan Policy

What would I be covered for?

Our home insurance policy can cover you in the event of loss or damage to your home and/or contents as a result of fire and smoke, explosion, lightning, storm or flood, and theft. In addition, we have also included other benefits at no additional cost.

On what basis would a claim settlement be made?

With our buildings cover we would pay for the cost of rebuilding or repairing your home including an allowance for additional expenses, such as architects’ and surveyors’ fees, and site clearance costs. If you have also insured your contents, then we would pay the cost of replacing or repairing the items insured with new items of the same kind.

How can I get an Eco Discount?

Citadel Eco home insurance policy provides cash savings on the Standard Home Insurance policy if you have a solar water heater or a photovoltaic system installed at home. The discount is applicable separately on buildings insurance, contents insurance, or on both when taken up together.

How do I calculate the sum insured of the building?

The sum insured of the building should reflect the rebuilding cost of the property.  This should also include the finishing works, bathrooms, all apertures as well as any fitted kitchen furniture and built-in appliances.

On what basis should I value my home contents for insurance purposes?

The value of your home contents should be based upon the amount of money which you would require to replace the items with equivalent new items.

Can I cover jewellery under the contents section of the policy?

Valuables may be included under the contents section of the policy up to a limit of one third of the total contents sum insured.  However, it should be noted that the limit in respect of any one article of value should not exceed €2,500 or 5% of the total contents sum insured, whichever is the lower unless specified.  If the total sum insured on valuables exceeds the one third limit mentioned this should be stated in the proposal form.

Are the contents of my private garage included under the policy?

Yes, they are covered provided that the garage is stated on the proposal form, that provision for such contents is made in the contents sum insured.

Should I regularly update my sums insured?

It is always advisable that you review the values which you have declared under your policy upon renewal and update your sums insured to include any additional purchases made throughout the year.

Does the policy cover me for my liability to third parties?

The Citadel Home policy covers also your liability towards third parties in respect of both bodily injury and damage to third party property.

What are 'valuables'?

Articles of gold, silver or jewellery, precious metals, furs, curios, pictures or other works of art, clocks, watches, photographic equipment, and stamp or coin collection which belong to You or Your family.
